Message sent to the BPC on 4 October by ExxonMobil:
"We recently held a non-statutory consultation to gather views on three potential CO2 pipeline corridors. We greatly appreciate your participation and the feedback provided to this consultation.
We have, however, now advised Government that we will not be progressing with the associated CO2 storage in the English Channel and in line with this decision we will not be progressing the Solent CO2 pipeline project.
Despite our sustained efforts over the past three years to secure the long-term, stable government policies and other market factors required to support the significant investment needed for this project, we have concluded the conditions necessary to support this investment are not in place at this time.
We continue to actively evaluate a range of alternative technical solutions that have the potential to deliver meaningful emissions CO2 reduction, ensuring we can continue to provide the energy and chemicals that society needs.
We look forward to exploring further opportunities to work together in the future.
Michael Foley"
