The New Forest District Council (NFDC) is implementing a new waste collection service across the district in three phases, starting in June 2025 and ending in March 2026. This new service includes alternate-week collections for recycling and rubbish using wheelie bins, and weekly food waste collections using food waste caddies. The first phase begins in June 2025, with the second and third phases starting in October 2025 and March 2026, respectively. Click here to find out when the changes will start in your area. The changes include:
-
New Bins and Caddies:Residents will receive wheelie bins for recycling and rubbish, collected on alternate weeks, and food waste caddies for weekly collections.
-
Phased Rollout:The new service will be introduced in three phases across different areas of the New Forest, with specific start dates for each area.
-
Glass Collection:Glass will continue to be collected every four weeks using the existing black box.
-
Paper and Card:Paper and card will be collected in the new recycling wheelie bins, rather than in separate bags.
-
Waste Strategy:This new service is part of NFDC's Waste Strategy 2022-2027, aimed at improving recycling rates and reducing waste generation.
-
Recycling:The strategy also includes a plan to improve recycling facilities in Hampshire, managed by Hampshire County Council, with updates to be provided as more information becomes available.
-
Bin Size:Most households will receive 180-litre wheelie bins for recycling and rubbish, along with a 90-litre food waste caddy. Larger households or those with specific needs can apply for larger bins.
-
Assisted Collections:Residents who need assistance with putting their bins out can request an assisted collection.
